Assemblies / SMSC / PHSE
At Greengate Junior School, we have a broadly Christian ethos, with a strongly embedded understanding of belonging to, and functioning in a community.
Whole school assemblies are led by the head teacher or deputy head teacher and take the form of discussion and activity around a PHSE/SMSC issue relevant to the school community at that time. Whole school assemblies are also a vehicle for our strong 'singing' ethos at Greengate Juniors, and children participate on a weekly basis, in community singing either with a theme (Harvest, Christmas etc) or using songs from the SINGUP children's website.
Each class produces a Friday Assembly, where children get to perform in front of our community audience, on a theme chosen by them. Every class has the opportunity for this twice or three times per year. PSHE/SMSC are strongly embedded throughout all lessons and activities at Greengate Junior school, and extra lessons for children on specific issues are planned as need arises (see our SMSC policy document).
