Pupil Leadership Team
As part of our citizenship education, we believe that children need to experience duties and responsibilities that come with being a member of a community, in order to help them prepare to play an active role as citizens.
At Greengate Juniors we believe that prefects, junior governors and play leaders have a very important role to play in the day to day organisation of our school, and as only Year Six pupils are allowed to apply for this position, it is considered to be very important.
The position not only allows the Year Six pupils to lead by example and demonstrate their responsibility, it also enables the younger children to learn from model behaviour of their peers. Every junior leader has to apply for their job and their applications go through a selection process. They are elected by the staff. The first round of applications takes place in September and throughout the year more children are chosen to join the team. All junior leaders are awarded badges in a whole school assembly.
Roles & Responsibilities
Greengate Prefects:
Greengate Junior prefects must lead by example at all times in their behaviour, the respect they show to others and their school uniform. They take on many roles and have many responsibilities, such as:
- Helping to set up events
- Helping at events
- Carrying out corridor duties
- Encouraging children to follow the Positive Expectations that we hold here at Greengate
- Supporting classes at wet break times
- Helping in the dining hall
Of course, prefects are offered privileges which include, being allowed to be indoors when they wish, work as mentors with other children, and termly meetings with Mrs Jackson for tea and cakes! At the end of the year they treated to afternoon tea in a local Café.
Pupils from Year 6 may be added to the current group of prefects as the year goes on, the list is never closed.
The Head Boy/ Deputy Head Boy and Head Girl/ Deputy Head Girl meet with the Mrs Jackson regularly to discuss school developments.
Greengate School Council:
At Greengate Juniors we have a group of School Councillors who work hard to ensure the voices of all the children in school are heard. The School Council are made from a group of students who have been elected by their peers.
